Life is not all about working and earning a living. The quality of your life is important to your health and happiness.  Enjoy life and have a life that is properly balanced between your personal life and work life. There are some areas that you may need help with such as stress management, time management and healthy living.  Below are some tips for each area. Take control of your life and make changes so you can lead a happy and productive life that is not only filled with a satisfying job but some fun and excitement!

Stress Management:

Is life and work stressing you out? Do you feel worn out? Are spending time on yourself? Do you feel like things are out of control? If you answered yes to any of these things, you are probably stressed out! There are many signs that may indicate that you could use some help with stress management. There are many work life balance books, work life balance seminars, etc. on this topic that can help you.

If you are in college, your Counseling Center may offer one-on-one help and seminars and workshops regarding Stress Management. You are not alone, students often are stressed out because they are trying to balance college, family, work and other commitments. Don’t be afraid to ask for some help, you will be glad you did.

Here are some general work life balance tips:

  • Practice good time management
  • Ask for help and/or delegate some of your workload at home and on the job
  • Schedule time to relax every day
  • Spend some quite time every day
  • Spend some time with your family and friends

Time Management:

Where does all your time go? Are there some things that you should be spending your time on but are not?

Here are some time management tips to help you:

There are 168 hours in a week, outline where your time is currently going

  • Work
  • Sleep
  • Commuting
  • Chores (break these down, dishes, laundry, etc.)
  • School/Studying
  • Entertainment (break these down, watching TV, movies, etc.)
  • Quite Time
  • Hobbies
  • Socializing
  • Exercising
  • Shopping
  • Other Errands
  • Attending Church
  • Volunteering

After doing this exercise. Answer the following so you can to begin to learn how to balance work and life:

  • Do things differently and more efficiently
  • Ask people for help at home and on the job
  • Take out things from my busy schedule
  • Say no to others who need my time
  • Look for work life balance companies that are family friendly companies
  • Get at least 8 hours quality sleep per night
  • Eat three balanced meals a day
  • Spend more quite time
  • Practice deep breathing exercises
  • Take walks and exercise regularly
  • Spend time with people who make you feel good
  • Connect spiritually
