START A BUSINESS
Entrepreneur
There are many resources to help you start your own business. If you have a dream of starting a business, seek professional guidance at your local Small Business Administration (SBA). Your community may also have a local chapter of SCORE, which provides consulting services from retired executives for free. Also, check in your yellow pages and local universities for various community programs and resources for small businesses. Local grants may be available to help you start and/or grow your business so check with your local city and county Business/Economic Development Offices. For instance, many of these grants are designed to attract companies to low income and/or areas with high unemployment. These grants may help you pay for salaries, lease, equipment, etc. Don't forget about tax credits and wage reimbursement programs (Work Opportunity Tax Credit) that you may qualify for. Check with you local county Workforce Center (Career One Stop Center) for employer incentive/wage reimbursement programs and check U.S. Department of Labor for more contact information.
Your local library, The Wall Street Journal, INC. and Entrepreneur are also great places to seek out information regarding starting and owning a business!
